The school’s resident IT guy (also known as our Technology Support Technician), Alex Delacruz, took a trip to Japan in early September. Here are a few insights and pictures from his trip:
Q: Why did you want to go to Japan?
A: I have always had an interest in traveling to Japan to experience the culture and cuisine.

Q: Where in Japan did you go?
A: We mainly stayed in Tokyo while in Japan, visiting various wards like Harajuku, Ginza, Chuo and Chiyoda to name a few.

Q:What food(s) did you enjoy the most, and or which dishes did you find the most interesting?
A: It’s a little embarrassing to say that the food that I enjoyed the most was from a convenience store. The egg salad sandwich from 7-11 was exceptional, and before you judge, please give [it] a try; it might change your life. As for the most interesting food, I would say that [it] was sea urchin (uni).

Q: What was your favorite aspect of your trip? And what was your least favorite?
A:The best part of the trip was just experiencing Japan with my friends. The people that I went with really made the trip worth it all. My least favorite aspect of the trip was the sweltering heat. I think while in Japan there wasn’t a day that the temperature went below 90 degrees. It made some of the daily excursions in the city challenging.

Q: What was your favorite memory from your trip?
A: My favorite memory of the trip was getting lost in Tokyo, which happened fairly regularly. There was an excitement to navigating a city and not knowing the destination. We ended up in some places that were unexpected; it made the trip and the stories much more valuable because it felt as though we would have never experienced that day’s events had we not gotten lost.

What do you recommend for people who want to travel to Japan?
When traveling to Japan, make sure to wear shoes that will sustain walking/standing for long periods of time. I would recommend going to Tokyo Skytree. The observation deck offers a 360-degree view of the city which is spectacular at night.
