New year, old clothes
Teens are finding new ways to rock ‘90’s fashion

It’s a new day and you wake up and go to your closet to try and decide what to wear. Do you pick the skinny jeans and sweatshirt or the mom jeans and baggy t-shirt? Either way, fashion is a major factor in most people’s everyday lives. What we wear on a daily basis gives us personality and shows the world a little glimpse of who we are.
Wearing fashion from older generations is just one way some people choose to express themselves and now more than ever 90’s fashion is making its triumphant return.
“I would rather wear modern clothes in the vintage style because it diversifies the clothing brands and styles,” said senior Jashvy Lazaro.
Much of today’s modern fashion takes key aspects from older fashion. So with ‘90’s fashion being the stepping stone for today’s trends many teens find wearing vintage clothing more appealing and enjoyable.
Vintage clothing items are also inexpensive in comparison to modern clothing and easy to find in local thrift stores.
“I don’t know if any of my clothes are authentically from the 90’s, but I do like to go thrift shopping every once in a while to find cool styles,” said senior Marilyn Niles.
Some of the things you may find at your local thrift store that might be a callback to the ‘90’s include crop tops, fanny packs, and denim on denim.
Some of those popular trends never really went away with many teens rocking similar styles throughout the 2000’s.
“Crop tops are a quintessential summer/spring top,” said senior Charlie Hopf.
Almost everyone has something they like from the ‘90’s.
“My favorite piece from the ’90s is color block shirts or shirts with contrasting colors on different panels,” said Lazaro.
Sporting 90’s fashion is just one way to express your personality in a fun way and still look like all that and a bag of chips.
