The highly anticipated movie Dune (2021) hit theaters in the U.S. on October 22nd. The movie had a budget of 165 million USD, not including marketing expenses.

The director Dennis Villeneuve is a French-Canadian filmmaker most known for Dune (2021), Blade 2049, Sicario and Arrival.

The movie was first a sci-fi novel written by Frank Herbert in 1965. It is a six novel series following main character Paul Atreides played by Timothée Chalamet. The movie includes known Hollywood actors like Zendaya, Jason Momoa and Oscar Isaac. Zendaya plays Chani who is a native to the planet Arrakis nicknamed Dune. Momoa plays Duke Leto, Atreides’ right hand man and swordmaster for the house of Atreides.

The Dune universe is set up so that there is an emperor and noble houses. The emperor oversees the houses and the houses oversee each planet. The house of Atreides is one of the more powerful houses. They soon get tasked with controlling the planet Arrakis or better known as Dune, and the spice production on the planet. Spice is a highly sought after drug that comes from the planet and is known to be a psychedelic as well as a way to prolong human life. The Fremen are natives to the planet Dune who are highly skilled warriors who try to protect the planet against imperial rule.

The film’s budget shows in the cinematography and the futuristic backdrops and gadgets. Not a detail was missed in the visually stunning movie. The movie did not include any unnecessary explosions or action scenes. The trailer has most of the action and at some points the scenes seem to drag on and leave you wanting the next thing to happen already. However, the pacing of the movie is good. You get to see everything to be well informed of what the characters’ personalities and relationships are to one another.

The actors delivered a fantastic performance, as did the filmmakers. A sequel to Dune (2021) is set to begin filming in July of 2022 that will dive more into the young Atreides journey.
