The Lockdown Sessions: A review
In October, Elton John released a new album consisting of collaborations with a range of artists

In March of 2020, the world was put on hold, including the likes of many world famous musicians, who had to stop mid-tour, and stay at home. One of these artists was Elton John. While quarantined, John collaborated with a diverse group of artists to produce the album The Lockdown Sessions.
Overall, this album didn’t do so well. The only song that did notably well was “Cold Heart,” which was a collaboration with Dua Lipa. Although it was the most popular song in the album, I personally wasn’t a fan of it. I really just couldn’t vibe with it mainly because I dislike pop and electronic dance music. If these are types of music that you enjoy though, then this is definitely a song you should check out.
My personal favorite on this album was “Nothing Else Matters,” which is a take on the popular song by Metallica. I am very much a fan of all types of music, but when it comes to classic rock, I have the biggest sweet spot. I would definitely recommend this song to anyone that vibes with classic rock.
A close second for me however, is “The Pink Phantom.” This collaboration with The Gorillaz, I feel, was one of their best songs. While listening, I felt almost as though I was in a dream-like state. It feels nostalgic and just puts you into a sort of trance.
Despite this album not doing particularly well on the charts so far, I like that it brings together artists from all different types of musical genres and styles. From hip-hop influencers such as Young Thug and Nicki Minaj, to indie alternative artists like the Gorillaz.
The album includes:
Cold heart – ft. Dua Lipa
Always love you – ft. Young Thug and Niki Minaj
Learn to fly – fr. Surfaces
After all – ft. Charlie Puth
Chosen family – ft. Rina Sawayama
The pink phantom – ft. Gorillaz and 6LACK
It’s a sin – ft. Years & Years
Nothing else matters – ft. Miley Cyrus, WATT, Yo-Yo Ma, Robert Trujillo, and Chad Smith
Orbit – ft. SG Lewis
Simple things – ft. Brandi Carlile
Beauty in the bones – ft. Jimmie Allen
E-ticket – ft. Eddie Vedder
Finish line – ft. Stevie Wonder
Stolen car – ft. Stevie Nicks
I’m not gonna miss you – ft. Glen Campbell
