Being a security guard is about more than just keeping us safe

Question: What makes this job special to you?

Answer: “This job is special because It allows me to interact with students and staff to create a special bond of trust. I love being able to understand what’s going on inside the heads of the students here.”

Question: What effect do you want to have on the future generation?

Answer: “I would like the future generations of kids to continue to help and trust in each other. After all, the future is bright for our next Generation of teachers, doctors, lawyers, politicians, and first responders and military leaders.”

Question: Has your past or background influenced the way you interact with kids and staff alike?

Answer: “Yes, my past and background has allowed me Interact with students and staff in a positive manner. Working in law enforcement for almost 30 years you have to build trust and a relationship with adults and kids. We all have issues we face every day. If I can help with a solution to your problem I won’t hesitate to help.”

Question: Where do you think the future will take you?

Answer: “After retiring from the Virginia Beach Sheriff Office. I think my future is at Salem High for a few years.”

Question: What piece of advice would you give all Salem students to help in their journey through life?

Answer: “Life is full of ups and downs and we aren’t perfect and we do not live in a perfect world. Stay true to yourself and make your life a blueprint that others would follow. Nothing in life will be easy. Family and true friends will be there to help in your time of need.”
