It Was Fun While it Lasted: a review

Rap artist Sueco demonstrates his ability defy the restraints of musical generalization

On March 4, 2022, rap artist Sueco dropped his most recent album, “It Was Fun While it Lasted,” which greatly highlights nostalgic pop-punk elements, much different from the usual music he creates.

This album is doing very well overall. The song “Paralyzed” has received over 30 million streams, placing it at number one on Spotify’s US 50 viral chart. It also reached number 65 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and number eight on the Billboard Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart.

One of my personal favorite songs on this album 7is “Loser,” because of how it brings to light some of Sueco’s pop-punk influences such as Blink-182 and My Chemical Romance. Specifically, “Loser” highlights feelings of not feeling good enough.

“Paralyzed” is another song on this album that really resonated with me. It introduces the topic of being stuck in a miserable relationship, but despite this, not wanting it to come to an end. “Paralyzed” takes a lot of inspiration from traditional emo and pop-punk bands, while also incorporating Sueco’s own ideas and styles.

Overall this album did very well, placing highly on a multitude of large music charts not only in its own genre, but all across the board. I feel that a big reason for this was because of how popular it has become on Tik Tok, but regardless of this, I personally really enjoyed it.
