Congratulations
May 31, 2022
Congratulations to the May Teacher of the Month Mrs. Jennifer Mechling
“She’s an amazing teacher!!” – senior Kaitlyn Trembley
“Mrs. Mechling has given me hope for a class I generally don’t do well in. She is so interactive in class that it is rare I am confused. When I am confused, she has created such a safe space within her classroom that I genuinely feel comfortable to ask for clarification. She is patient, considerate and treats her students equally. Because of her consideration, her students give her the same respect in return. Mrs. Mechling gives me hope that teachers do still care about their students. I could never thank her enough for being the first teacher at Salem to make feel like my education matters.” – senior Daniella Valencia
“She is great at including everyone’s opinions in AP Government and Politics and she really makes a great learning environment.” – senior Alister Sanchez-Lapitan
“She is such a good teacher and engages her students so much. Also, she is very funny and silly and makes me happy to be in AP GOVERMENT.” – senior Cailee Nichols
“Mrs. Mechling doesn’t just give us history content, she makes it fun! Whether it be doing review Kahoots or sparking student interest in class discussions, Mrs. Mechling is a one of a kind teacher who gives her all to her students. Through these activities, I myself have found AP Gov quite fun.” – senior Andrew Euler
“Mrs. Mechling is an amazing person and teacher. She has fun in class and goes out of her way to interact with her students. She’s kind and maternal and makes a class that I don’t love much more bearable. Mrs. Mechling is more than deserving and I know so many more of her students who would agree.” – senior Kyleigh Wanzelak
“She strives to be super nice and make fun, engaging lessons, and develop friendships with her students.” – senior Rebecca Liverman
Congratulations May students of the month
Freshman Jenna Brown
“Jenna is consistently wonderful! She always has a positive attitude and a smile. She is kind to everyone and maintains a stellar grade in Biology.” – Science Teacher Ms. Krista Lewis
Sophomore Keven Mazuera-Caro
“Keven is a student who is always prepared for class, is willing to assist classmates, and seeks understanding in content. Although soft spoken, Keven is an advocate for his learning process. When he is absent from class, Keven makes up the assignment before returning to class. He is a joy to have in class.” – Math Teacher Mrs. Sonya Bennett
Junior Emily Euler
“Emily checks all the boxes in terms of the description for Student of the Month. She works very hard and serves as a great example of what it takes to be successful. She is active in the Salem community and a pleasure to have in the classroom. Her attitude is very positive and infectious. Emily would be the perfect recipient of Student of the Month.” – Social Studies Teacher Mr. W. Tabb Pearson
“Emily is a driven student. She is focused and hard working. She is the type of student who is not satisfied with a good grade: she wants excellence, and she is willing to put in the work to achieve it. She is an active participant in all discussions, an excellent writer, and a truly budding intellectual. Even with a near perfect grade, she still seeks out tutoring opportunities to be certain she has an absolute grasp and control of the material. She is the type of student every teacher longs to teach.” – English Teacher Mrs. Robin Lusk-Stancil
Senior Daren Chalk
“Daren is a complete rockstar every day. He is so polite and responsible and always willing to help a student who is struggling. He is thoughtful and provides perfect examples in AP psychology when mine aren’t resonating with students. He stepped in last week and volunteered for several mock trial roles when other students were absent or couldn’t fulfill their role. He wants his and everyone’s learning experience to be enriching and engaging. He makes a difference in my class every single day. ” – Social Studies Teacher Mrs. Kim Rowe
