Field hockey players say goodbye

Nearly half the team slated to graduate

The field hockey team is already preparing for a tough year next year. Nearly half the team will graduate in June.
“With almost half of our team leaving this year, it’s going to be difficult to adjust,” said junior Allie Pisterman, “but many of my friends have already shown their interest for joining next year and there will be interest meetings for girls who would like to join the team.”

Even though they are a sports team, their relationships go farther than teammates.

“Although many of the seniors have taught me many useful skills on the field, they have also taught me skills that I can utilize for my upcoming senior year,” said Pisterman. “They’ve recommended classes to take and have encouraged me to become more involved in other school activities like class exec and leadership workshop.”

Although the season is coming to a close, seniors aren’t just walking away. They are focusing on what they can do for the players who will remain next year.

“I would love to leave the underclassmen and juniors with the sense that they can accomplish so much more than they’ve been able to in the past,” said senior Ella Hayes. “We truly have had an amazing season, and I’d love to see that continue on. I want the girls to recognize their skills and continue to have the drive and keep being amazing.”
Although she will no longer be representing the SunDevil’s next year, Hayes doesn’t plan on leaving her field hockey career behind.

“I will for sure continue to play club field hockey through the rest of the high school year and I also hope to commit to a D1 school,” said Hayes.

Even though the field hockey season has come to an end, the seniors intend to continue to mentor the underclassmen athletically, socially, emotionally, and academically.
