Our singers are preparing for District Chorus auditions, an audition that requires participants to sing in the presence of three judges whose faces are covered by long white pieces of fabric during the performance to remain anonymous.
There are eight different parts students can try out for, including soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. District auditions will be held on October 28th, the same day as Homecoming.
¨During the week of District, I’ll be giving the kids feedback on the audition song and practicing sight reading,¨ said vocal academy teacher Mrs. Corbin Pinto.
Pinto and chorus teacher Mrs. Lynne German are preparing students well ahead of time.
¨Students learn to breathe, annunciate, and sing better every time I do the auditions,” said German. “I love it.¨
Passing District Chorus auditions is a one-way ticket to All-state auditions, which require a level three sight-reading skill as well as a performance of the song, “Blow Blow thou Winter Wind.” Vocal teachers, such as German and Pinto, push their students to apply for opportunities such as District Chorus and All-State Chorus because it is an opportunity that many students may only get once.
“It is not required of my students to try out, but I try to push them [to],¨ said Pinto. “You’re in the academy, [so] you should want to do it.”
Students that take part learn a lot, and it also stands out on their resume.
¨I feel a little nervous, but I’m prepared,¨ said senior Jadyn Rhodes.
Participating in District Chorus auditions can be a beneficial experience for teachers and students alike..
