Talk to Me, a masterpiece of a movie produced by A24, came out on July 28th, 2023. I’m somewhat of a horror movie fanatic, and I can honestly say that this movie had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through.
The story takes place on the anniversary of the passing of the main character’s mom. Mia (the main character), played by Sophie Wilde, later goes to her friends’ Riley, played by Joe Bird, and Jade’s, played by Alexandra Jensen, home to spend the anniversary with them and their mother, played by Miranda Otto.
Mia later convinces Jade to take her to one of the parties that has been going viral on the internet. These parties have been centered around a mysterious embalmed hand. This hand was said to be a medium that connected the living with the spirits of the deceased. You’ll have to watch what happens as a result of the group attending the party.
Talk to Me is categorized as a horror movie, however, I did not personally find it to be scary so much as creepy and uncomfortably gory. There is a more emotional aspect of the movie as well surrounding the hurt that Mia feels after the loss of her mother and the growing distance between her and her father. The added stress and emotional toll from her family trauma causes Mia to be more than a little reckless. I felt this was an accurate portrayal of someone going through a difficult time in their life.
Overall, I’d consider this movie to be a must-watch. It contains many interesting topics as well as witty characters with thought-provoking storylines.
