Our homecoming theme was Candy Land and I observed people’s outfits to see if they fit the theme, were original, and how well they accessorized (broaches, handbags, makeup, jewelry, etc.).
With the theme of Candy Land, I expected to see pastel colors with lots of sparkles. One thing that would have impressed me the most was taking a bold step into dressing like someone candy-related or even being a Candy Land character.
Our first outfit of the night was worn by Class of 2026 president Sam Turner. They wore a red suit with a white undershirt and white shoes. For accessories, Turner wore twizzler earrings along with a silver chain necklace. Their outfit was a good twist on the plain black suit, and the accessories sold the fact that they were going for a candy-esque vibe.
Junior Maleah Sanai wore our second outfit of the night. She donned a red dress with pearl accents on each sleeve. To tie it all together, she wore a matching pearl headband.
This outfit, just like the one before, gave off Twizzler vibes if you were looking at it through a candy perspective, but through another lens, it looks like a dress that could be worn on Christmas.
Junior Gavin Wehr and sophomore Gabe Johnson wore our next outfits. Wehr wore a black button-up with a blue speckled tie, brown pants, and black slip-on vans. His outfit is a very comfortable but classy outfit, still showing that it is a semi-formal event.
Johnson wore a suit, red button-up, and red and white Nikes. The color shared between the red shirt and shoes gives the suit a pop of color. Both outfits fit the theme.
Senior Madison Bano wore our 5th outfit of the night. Bano wore a sparkly blue dress with amazing lace detailing. For accessories, she wore a delicate gold necklace and a baby blue flower broach with pearls.
This outfit is pretty much spot on to what I was picturing when I heard the theme of Candy Land. The detailing of the dress gives it an original touch scoring an originality point in my book.
Our 6th and 7th outfits of the night are worn by juniors Kiersten Francisco and Eli Shuhy. Shuhy wore black suit pants and a white button-up shirt with a pink tie. The pink tie gives off the vibe of cotton candy, but other than that, there are no other signs of “Candy Land.”
Francisco wore a red off-the-shoulder dress. The dress was cute, but didn’t match the Candy Land theme unless you think of it as a Twizzler. For accessories, Francisco wore a silver butterfly necklace.
The 8th outfit was worn by SCA president senior Sammi Easmeil. They wore a long velvet gown with pearl earrings and a gold bracelet for accessories. Easmeil’s outfit very much reminds me of the purple coat from the 1971 Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. I believe this outfit very much fits the theme and would also work as a universal dress for nearly anything.
Seniors Josh Mejia and Gabriel Breshears wore the 9th and 10th outfits. Mejia wore a blue suit with a white button-up and a darker blue tie. His outfit definitely fits my vision of what Candy Land looks like. I also enjoyed that it wasn’t a plain black suit.
Breshears wore a black vest and pant combo with a white button-up shirt with a lavender tie. The tie adds the perfect pop of color while still keeping the vest and pants a universal touch.
Juniors Lydia Gualdoni, Kamryn Mandley, Kassidy Stubaus, Anna Solares, and Gwendolyn Darrow wore our next few outfits. Gualdoni wore a medium blue shiny dress. The dress was the perfect blue to suit her hair shade. Gualdoni didn’t accessorize, but still wore something Candy Land-esque.
Mandley wore a black sparkly dress. The dress could work for any occasion and the glitter fit decently with the Candyland theme.
Stubaus wore a white dress with flower detailing. The dress reminded me of sweet whipped cream. This dress can work with both the Candy Land theme and any other occasion.
Solares wore a gold-ish dress. The gold definitely reminds me of the golden ticket from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which gave it that candyland vibe. For accessories, Solares wore a pair of gold dangle earrings.
Class of ‘25 President and Junior royalty Darrow wore a blue sparkly dress with swirl patterning. The patterning reminds me of the whimsy you get from being in a magical Candyland. For accessories, Darrow wore her royalty sash along with pearl earrings.
For our 15th and 16th outfits, Juniors Angelina Julian and Bella Seminario. Julian wore a black sparkly fitted dress with black leather. For accessories, she wore an infinity necklace with a beaded bracelet. The sparkles add pizzazz to the outfit and give off the vibe of black licorice.
Seminario wore a sparkly silver dress with purple iridescent detailing. Seminario wore a silver heart locket for accessories. This dress very much gave Candyland and the iridescence gives the sweet effect of candy.
Junior Abbie Funk wore our final outfit of the night. Funk wore a green off-the-shoulder dress with flower detailing. For accessories, Funk wore a cross choker and a knife pin.
The style of the dress was extremely original and the green of the dress reminds me of Plumpy from the original Candy Land board game.
Overall, I am impressed with the looks everyone was able to put together. Even though some did not exactly fit the theme of Candyland, they were mainly original looks.
