Each year the Artistry Dance Company, or ADC (formerly Academy Dance Company), hosts a holiday-themed event focused on highlighting Salem’s talent with dancing, singing, and instrumental performances. This will be held December 20th, with a performance each block and an additional performance after school.
“It’s a very stressful process,” said senior Zahria Davis. “But it’s always worth it in the end.”
Currently, the lineup includes acts from these groups and students:
Dylan Cohen
Annalee Barton
Reagan Ramsey
Salem Select
Men’s Choir
Alli Shoup & Wade Jernigan
String Orchestra
Bella, Aven, & Carter
Film Club
Salem Cheer
Liliana, Jersey, & Zharia
Sundevil Squad “The Squad Express”
Emma Jones
Serani, Kenedi, & Karson
Tamera Jones & Kendall White
Each year, a new pair of SunDevils take on the role of Masters of Ceremonies, or MC. Last year, Sammi Easmeil and Sam Watowski filled our ears with punny gags to sew the acts together, and this year we are lucky to have seniors Tristan Blanco and Jada Arthur take on the task.
“My favorite part of Holiday Showcase is having a whole school day to share [Holiday] spirit with Salem High School,” said Blanco. “I look forward to being a part of all of the different talents and acts, and seeing the different interpretations of what makes the Holiday [season] special!”
The Film Club is also putting together its annual short film. Last year, we were blown away by “Sketches” directed by Brady Malone (‘23). This year “Carol of the Fates” will be directed by junior John Mark Dizon.
“It’s about Santa Darth Vader who is wreaking havoc across the school, but students trapped inside have to fight for their lives to survive,” said Dizon.“At the beginning of this year, Mr. Moss had very interesting concepts, such as Santa Darth Vader, that he wanted to incorporate into this year’s film. I also thought I could mix my ideas with his, and I decided to take the director role for the film. “
The film club is very proud of their piece this year.
“We’re really excited!” said Film Club member senior Raine Morrison. “It’s really fun, really well directed, really well shot, and we worked a lot with trying to figure out how we would do all of the shots, but the way that John Mark edited everything and shot everything… made it feel like a film. Not like a high school film.”
Tickets for the evening showing are for sale on GoFan right now, $8.00 for general admission and $5.00 for students. Happy Holidays!
