The Great Cookie Competition: The Sequel
Teachers go head-to-head in the return of the cookie competition
December 1, 2019
The Cookie Competition made a return to the spotlight just before winter break, and it was bigger and better than ever. Teachers and admin staff were able to submit up to two cookie types to compete for the best cookie. There were five categories in which they could win: best tasting, best decorated, most festive, most original, and best overall.
SunShine committee Chairperson, Mrs. Sandy Szilassy, spearheaded the competition for the second year in a row. Szilassy was very impressed with the results of the second year.
“We have a lot more cookies this year,” said Szilassy. “More people are not only competing in the competition, but also came down to judge and sample. Teachers that have entered in the past have changed up their submissions, which keeps things fresh.”
Just like last year, teachers and administration take a paper ballot that they cast their votes on for which cookies they felt were best.
Lots of teachers put their heart and soul into the cookies they bake, and some take the spirit of competition very seriously.
“My kitchen will be covered in flour for the next six months,”said Pamela Mudway jokingly.
Some of the names of the cookies included Eggnog cookies, Orange Blossom cookies, Monster cookies, (making a comeback from last year) Chocolate Dipped Macaroons, Brookies, (a combination of cookie and brownie) and a host of other homemade cookie recipes as well. There was even a table of gluten free options.
Whenever the chance comes around for the Sunshine Committee to shine, they will take advantage of it.
“I do it for the spirit of the holidays, and the comradery that it brings between the teachers,” said Szilassy.
