Students file into the breakfast line, still trying to wake up. There’s a familiar smell in the air, but what could it be?
“I actually saw people coming into class with coffee and I thought it was from outside of school- like Starbucks,” said senior Jersey Phelps. “But I was told by a friend that they were offering it during breakfast. So I started getting it to try!”
Students are excited about this new addition and are filling the breakfast lines. If you don’t get there early, you likely will find empty bins with coffee flavor labels.
“I was honestly really surprised how good it was. My expectations weren’t high, but it definitely reached them,” said sophomore Mirabelle Malone.
Now that coffee is being offered at school, there’s no need to stop anywhere before school. It not only saves time, but also money.
On average, a regular cup of iced coffee would cost around $2.45, while Salem coffee only costs $1.00!
“The flavor/quality is on and off,” said Phelps. “However, I can see how it may be beneficial to people as it saves time and money. Also, I think the coffee on/off thing can be easily fixed if they consider offering some creamer packets!”
It doesn’t seem like the addition of iced coffee has changed the amount of time a person spends in line either. Seeing this makes it worth getting into line. Students who get just breakfast don’t have to wait long to get their food and people who want coffee haven’t made the wait too much worse.
“I didn’t get breakfast before, but sometimes I went with people who got breakfast,” said Malone. “I think at the beginning the lines were a little bit longer, but it died down and I can’t really see a notable difference now.”
The variety of flavors also makes students happy. Even just going in to try the different flavors can be exciting.
“There’s a variety of different flavors for people to get! I always get White Chocolate,” said Phelps.
Overall, the addition to SunDevil breakfast has had rave reviews. The coffee is a little something extra to help students feel more at home at school in the morning.
