With Fortnite’s OG season done and gone, a review about the entire season is well deserved. I do not want to wait until the end of the review to give my honest opinion, so I am going to throw it out in the beginning by saying it’s a ten out of ten. I have not had that much fun in Fortnite since 2019. Also, it is safe to say that I wasn’t the only one having fun because season OG caused Fortnite to explode in player count so much that it broke its all-time one-day player record, reaching five million players.
Before gassing up this season (because I have a lot of amazing things to say), I want to first talk about how short this season was. Usually, a season would take roughly three months in order to release multiple cosmetics in the item shop, introduce new items, and give time so players can enjoy the season thoroughly. Fortnite OG was only one month long, which caused issues within the community.
The end-of-season live event was very disappointing; it wasn’t necessarily bad, but most weren’t satisfied with the final piece. Essentially, Epic Games promised an Eminem concert which, in my opinion, was a great way to end the season. I thought it was going to be much like the Travis Scott concert that happened on April 23, 2020, that showed off a portion of his discography, but we sadly did not get that. What we did get were two songs that lasted a combined total of one minute and multiple advertisements for what was in store for us in Chapter 5. It was so bad that players started to post jokes and make fun of the event.
Many different aspects made season OG what it was, but I want to tackle the biggest fish first: the original map coming back. Walking around the old map and POIs, such as Tilted Towers, Pleasant Park, and Retail Row, is nostalgic. That feeling of dropping Tilted and surviving for three seconds before heading back to the lobby is unmatched to this day, or maybe you are a skilled player and survived until the final ten.
I also really enjoyed the way Fortnite handled bringing back old items. Every week, they brought back a handful of weapons, vehicles, and even added back popular POIs (places of interest) to the map. It was a great way to make the new season fresh and fun instead of adding everything back on the first day and making it stale.
However, the best thing to come out of this season was multiple videos posted around all social media platforms. Players took turns to make the dumbest decisions by “trolling” teammates and even themselves.
When Fortnite OG season was first announced, I was so hyped to be playing a game I dedicated so much time to. Honestly, Fortnite did not disappoint this time and the old map will be missed.
