You may have seen the clips posted on Wednesdays on @shs.whatsupwednesday, and if you haven’t, you should check them out. Seniors Hunter Olsen and Jasper Covington created What’s Up Wednesday to share “what’s up” around Salem via short video clips.

What is What’s Up Wednesday?
What’s Up Wednesday is a talk-show-esque video series where Jasper and I show off Salem’s school spirit and highlight important events and individuals within our school. We want to showcase things that might not be known without us sharing them.
What inspired What’s Up Wednesday?
On one of the first days in Journalism, Mrs. Trace mentioned that the Class of ‘22 had two members who made a talk show called The Sara and Jesse Show. Jasper and I just looked at each other and knew that was going to be us.
What is the creation and editing process of your pictures/videos?
A lot of our work ends up being us asking ourselves and each other, “You know what would be funny?” or “You know what would look cool?” and that’s how we often suffer from technical difficulties. [This] results in our “What’s Up Wednesday” posts ending up being posted on Thursday.

What is What’s Up Wednesday?
“What’s Up Wednesday” is a talk show created by me and Hunter to let Salem students know “what’s going down,” which so far has included everything from school events and spirit weeks to helping students decide which classes might be the best fit for them next year. The point is to have something made by students for students. As a bonus, I think that it’ll be a nice way for me and Hunter to remember our senior year. It’s posted on the Instagram account @shs.whatsupwednesday in collaboration with @shs.press.
What inspired What’s Up Wednesday?
I’ve always loved making little video projects when given the opportunity and was super excited to work on something with my best friend, so it seemed like the perfect idea!
What is the creation and editing process of your pictures/videos?
It is definitely a process! We usually film on Thursdays through Tuesdays. I edit as the days go on, and we aim to post on Wednesdays. Unfortunately, we have had a few bumps in the road, especially with technology. This is because it’s very new and time-consuming, and the school schedule has been pretty hectic. There’s definitely a lot of room to grow as the year goes on, but I love it and it’s been super awesome to get to work with Hunter more.
Covington and Olsen put in a huge amount of effort to make these videos to put smiles on their fellow classmates’ faces. They post them on @shs.whatsupwednesday, so check it out if you want to know “what’s up.”
