Leadership Workshop 2024 is almost here!
It’s that time of year again when students in neon shirts cheer, sing, and rave about workshop – but what is it exactly?
Salem High School Leadership Workshop, or SHSLW, is an overnight school-sponsored event open to ninth through eleventh graders where students not only better their leadership skills, but also improve their relationships with their peers.
“It’s a weekend event for three days, two nights. We’re gonna be at Triple R Ranch,” said senior workshop staff member Nicole Byrd. “You get to learn some fun leadership skills and how you can bring them back to Salem. It’s a very fun way to meet a ton of people from other grades.”
Leadership Workshop is filled with team-building activities, instructionals, and events that help students grow into better leaders.
“[Delegates] will learn a lot of leadership skills like time management, organization, and communication, but the biggest thing delegates will learn about is themselves,” said Workshop Advisor Mrs. Lacy Krell.
While learning how to lead, students will have the support of their peers and counsel leaders.
“The delegates will learn what their leading style is,” said senior workshop staff member Jada Arthur. “While being surrounded by so many other people who are trying to lead a group, they will learn how to interact with one another and how to step down when needed.”
What do delegates need to remember?
- “Water bottle, a good attitude, a willingness to try new things, patience, and a pencil.” (Krell)
- “Have fun! Leadership Workshop is not just meant for people who are already leaders, it’s meant for everyone. Bring a nice stuffed animal, bring a warm sweater. If you want to get ready early, wake up at least an hour earlier than everyone else.” (staff member Jackie Cruz)
- “They should remember that being a delegate is a process to confidence. Leadership is a service! Also, bring sheets and a towel, that’s like super important.” (staff member Raine Morrison)
- “Pretty please bring a pillow and a blanket.” (staff member Keven Mazuera-Caro)
The final list of students invited to attend was revealed on January 24th. Anyone who applied should check the list outside of Room 218.
