Have you ever wondered if you would ever actually use what you learned in school? Ever wished you could learn how to start a business? Well, you’re in luck – Fashion Marketing teacher, Ms. Sarah Stratman, is now also teaching a new entrepreneurship course.
“They have to pitch a business based on junior achievement, prepare for difficult industry credentials, and also be taught the basics of entrepreneurship,” said Stratman.
The pitches that the students work on are presented to real investors. In Ms. Stratman’s third-block Entrepreneurship class, there are two business groups. Senior Jadyn Rhodes’s group’s goal is to make jewelry without using irritating materials.
“Starting the business, for us, was probably one of the most difficult things – finding out what we wanted to do and what would sell,” said Rhodes.
Students of all grades can sign up for this 4×4 course; the only requirement is having taken a marketing class prior. Sophomore Nevaeh Mervin is taking the course right now.”
“The most fun thing about the course is putting all of our fun ideas together to make something great,” said Mervin. “The field trip was fun, as well. We’re in a real process of trying to get money from investors.
This class provides challenging lessons and business vocabulary, as well as fun and rewarding opportunities that are open to different students’ learning styles.
“Everybody is kind of at their own pace in their own time. There are deadlines, but before the deadlines, it’s how they best use their time [that matters],” said Stratman.
