When is Ring Dance?
April 20th at 7pm, and it will end at 11pm.
What is the Ring Dance theme this year?
The theme this year is “Tangled.”
Where will it be held?
The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA)
2200 Parks Ave, Virginia Beach, VA 23451
How much are tickets?
Tickets are $75 per person. This cost helps cover expenses used for the location, catering, DJ, a 360 photo booth, lighting, and security during Ring Dance.
How do I bring guests?
A junior bringing a Salem student as their guest who is not a junior will have to write in the students’ name as their guest. A junior who plans on bringing a non-Salem student to Ring Dance can request a guest from Mrs. Blais or Mr. Cooper and fill it out before the guest purchases their ticket.
Ring Dance coordinators are working hard this year to produce a wonderful experience for all juniors. The Ring Dance coordinator, Kendall Warlick, has had a wonderful time getting her ideas out there on the small-but-expandable theme for Ring Dance.
Junior Class Advisor Mrs. Blais has been super excited to watch Warlick’s planning progress.
“I locked in on Kendall Warlick as who I wanted to chair Ring Dance pretty much from the time I met her last June,” said Mrs. Blais. “She was upbeat, positive, willing to help however needed, and someone I felt who brought fresh fun ideas to the class. She has done a wonderful job!”
Warlick has also worked hard to incorporate and include the ideas of her junior peers.
“There are so many things you can do with a small theme. At first, the backlash we got for the theme from some students inspired me and a bunch of others to take it and make it seem more than just Disney, while still trying to make it an amazing experience for all,” said Warlick.
This being said, the theme “Tangled” holds a lot of creative possibilities with decoration, outfits, and overall aesthetics.
“We are going for mainly just the essence of tangled. We wanted less purple because that’s what everyone is doing, but more gold and silver with lanterns and vines,” said Warlick. “For outfits, if I were to suggest, I’d tell students to go broad. Greens like the forest and Pascal. Dark blues like Flynn Rider’s outfit… stuff like that. Not just purple like the cover.”
Planning the theme isn’t the only responsibility of those working to coordinate Ring Dance. Blais understands how preparation can be a long and tedious project, with many factors to consider.
“We began last June, lining up a venue, DJ, and caterer, as well as beginning to form our committee. Once the theme was chosen, we started brainstorming decorations. This process involved making several visits to the MOCA to look at the setup and develop our vision,” said Blais.
The list of responsibilities goes on: “A budget had to be made. This is tricky because you want to make sure you have the money to cover expenses for the event, but also raise enough funds to catapult the class into senior year.”
Any questions regarding the 2024 ring dance can be brought to Mrs. Blais or Mr. Cooper in room 104. Have fun on Saturday!
