With the school year almost over, the spring sports teams (Junior Varsity Baseball, Varsity Baseball, Varsity Softball, Varsity Boys Lacrosse, Varsity Girls Lacrosse, Junior Varsity Boys Soccer, Varsity Boys Soccer, Junior Varsity Girls Soccer, Varsity Girls Soccer, Varsity Boys Tennis, Varsity Girls Tennis, Varsity Boys Outdoor Track, and Varsity Girls Outdoor Track) have brought their seasons to a close.
Varsity Softball
Varsity Softball had a fantastic season putting up a final record of 10-10, their best since 2018. Led by seniors Samantha Brown, Grace Snead, Erin Sousa, and Janelle Breitkreutz, the team went on a six-game win streak, snagging wins against Tallwood, Cox, and Landstown. A major team highlight includes beating First Colonial 8-4 on their senior night, as they were last victorious against the Patriots in March of 2018.
Unfortunately unable to secure a regional playoff spot, the team finished out their season with the celebration of senior night on Thursday, May 16th. Keep a close eye next spring, as head coach Quentin Munson has open roster spots to fill with the departure of four seniors and sophomore Sara Sousa.
Junior Varsity Baseball
Junior Varsity Baseball had an amazing season with the addition of freshmen Aiden Rakowski, Marcell Johnson, Mason Kachuba, and Aiden Root. Johnson led the team with an on-base percentage of 0.500, with Kachuba leading the team with six stolen bases.
Coached by Hatler Riddle, the boys racked up wins against Bayside and Tallwood and kept spirits high when down against tough opponents. Congratulations to Junior Varsity Baseball on an awesome season.
Varsity Baseball
Led by seniors Logan Strader, Jayce Marrs, Joseph Skees, Brady Donovan, Noah Mcfadden, Talan Degracia, and Jacob Files, Varsity Baseball picked up a win against Bayside on their senior night and beat Lake City at the Myrtle Beach tournament over spring break. A major team highlight includes beating Green Run 8-4 at Harbor Park, with a portion of ticket sales benefiting the program.
With the departure of seven seniors, two of them will head to play at the collegiate level next fall. Donovan is committed to William Peace University, while Files is committed to Bryant & Stratton College. Amazing victories on and off the field for our SunDevils.
Varsity Boys Lacrosse
Varsity Boys Lacrosse had nothing short of a spectacular season as they rallied to beat Tallwood 7-6 on Tuesday, April 16th. The team also beat Green Run 10-2 on Wednesday, May 8th, and fought hard against Bayside, Ocean Lakes, and Landstown.
The boys advanced to playoffs but unfortunately exited with a first-round regional loss to Kellam. Congratulations to Varsity Boys Lacrosse and head coach Cory Garner on a season characterized by tenacity and grit.
Varsity Girls Lacrosse
Coached by head coach Ronnie Schule, Varsity Girls Lacrosse finished with a 2-9 regular season record. As a result of the girls’ hard work and dedication, the team saw many personal improvements and advanced to playoffs, despite their first-round regional loss to Ocean Lakes.
The team celebrated the departure of eight seniors on Tuesday, May 7th, and came out with a 20-2 win over Green Run. Congratulations to Varsity Girls Lacrosse on their accomplishments and diligence this season.
Junior Varsity Boys Soccer
Head coach Mike Danley led Junior Varsity Boys Soccer to an action-packed season. The boys faced off against Ocean Lakes, Tallwood, and First Colonial, and fought hard in a close game against Nansemond River. The team celebrated their hard work with an end-of-season dinner, exchanging gifts to cap off the season. These athletes should be proud of their efforts.

Ending with a regular season record of 8-8, Varsity Boys Soccer had a great season. The boys started off the season with a 5-0 record, totaling up wins against Booker T. Washington, Indian River, Tallwood, Green Run, and Bayside. They also battled against Churchland on Monday, April 22nd, emerging victorious with a final score of 2-0. The conclusion of their season came with a first-round regional playoff loss to Great Bridge on Thursday, May 23rd. Nice work this season, Varsity Boys Soccer.
Junior Varsity Girls Soccer
Junior Varsity Girls Soccer played an amazing season with a 7-0 blowout win over Bayside and an intense match against Western Branch. The team faced off against Tallwood, Kempsville, and Ocean Lakes, as well as non-region teams including Hickory and Nansemond River. Congratulations to Junior Varsity Girls Soccer on an exceptional season.
Varsity Girls Soccer
Led by seniors Wynn Cordero, Elayna Garcia, Bella Fong, Savanna Fitzgerald, and Kaycie Colton, Varsity Girls Soccer finished with a 5-9-2 regular season record, beating Indian River, Tallwood, Bayside, and Norcom. The team also saw the breakout of freshmen Lauren Wyatt and Aniya Murray, adding to the depth of the attack.
The girls concluded their season with a hard-fought draw to Princess Anne on Tuesday, May 14th, going into double overtime. With the departure of five seniors, it will be interesting to see how head coach Michael Sibelu fills the open roster spots next season.
Varsity Boys Tennis
Varsity Boys Tennis made significant strides this season, as they beat Bayside and Tallwood 7-2 and Green Run 8-1. The boys also went up against Cox, Landstown, First Colonial, and Kempsville, ultimately resulting in a 3-7 regular season record. Congratulations to Varsity Boys Tennis on a great season.
Varsity Girls Tennis
Head coach John Murray led Varsity Girls Tennis to a fun, exhilarating season, beating Green Run 7-2 on Wednesday, May 8th. The girls also went up against Bayside, Ocean Lakes, Cox, and Kempsville, eventually finishing with a 1-9 regular season record. Congratulations to the girls’ varsity tennis team for a great season.
Varsity Boys Outdoor Track
Varsity Boys Outdoor Track had a milestone-filled season with many runners setting new personal records at meets and invitationals. A major frontrunner for the SunDevils, senior King Evans placed first in the Boys 100 Meter Dash at Beach District meets #1 and #5 and first in the Boys 200 Meter Dash at Beach District meets #1 and #4. The team placed first in the 4×100 meter relay at Beach District meet #1 and first in the 4×400 meter relay at the Marlin Invitational. Congratulations to Varsity Boys Outdoor Track on an awesome season.
Varsity Girls Outdoor Track
Varsity Girls Outdoor Track had a spectacular season with sophomore Adyson Jordan and senior Zakyah Lindsay paving the way for new additions. Jordan placed first in the Girls 300 Meter Hurdle at Beach District meet #1, while Lindsay placed first in Girls Shot Put at Beach District meets #1 and #3. The team placed first in the 4×100 meter relay at Beach District meet #1 and first in the 4×800 meter relay at the Denbigh Patriots Track Classic and Grassfield Invitational.
