Following the release of Taylor Swift’s 11th studio album The Tortured Poets Department and its anthology, Swift made changes— one of which was to The Eras Tour. The new TTPD set includes the songs “But Daddy I Love Him,” “So High School,” “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” “Down Bad,” “Fortnight,” “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” and “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart.” The set consists of moving platforms, inclining props, a marching band, and an old money-style outfit change to increase the visuals of this already fun, yet heavy album.
- The Alchemy
“The Alchemy” is the second to last track on the main album. This song is rumored to be about Swift’s current boyfriend Travis Kelce as it has many football references. One of which is “Touch down, call the amateurs, and cut ‘em from the team.”
- I Hate It Here
The 23rd track of the album is titled “I Hate it Here.” This song is a calming song about escapism. The lyrics are relatable especially “I hate it here so I will go to secret gardens in my mind.” The only thing placing this lyric lower is the line “I’d say the 1830s but without all the racists.”
- So Long, London
“So Long, London” is the infamous track five of this album. The title of this song is a call back to the song “London Boy” from Swift’s seventh studio album Lover. This song is a great showcase of Swift’s lyricism with a beautifully sounding track along with it.
- Loml
“Loml” is the 12th track of the album. The abbreviation typically stands for “Love of my life” but as the song goes on it starts to fade into the term “loss of my life.” The lyrics of this song are perfect and the Aaron Dessner production style shines bright in this.
- I Can Do It With a Broken Heart
“I Can Do It with a Broken Heart” is a song based on having to perform “The Eras Tour” while being heartbroken. In contrast to the sad lyrics, this song has a fun synth sound that you can dance to. Lyrics like “I cry a lot but I am so productive,” are relatable and the delivery of the lyrics “I’m miserable and nobody knows” and “Try and come for my job” is the perfect way to end the song.
- Guilty As Sin?
“Guilty as Sin” is the 9th track of the album and can be considered one of Swift’s glitter gel pen songs (songs that are typically carefree and bouncy.) This song is a cheerful song that makes me want to dance around my bedroom.
- The Black Dog
“The Black Dog” is the 4th and final exclusive song. This song corresponds with the ink black vinyl and is the opener for the Anthology portion of the album. The song has a pretty piano line and a dynamic guitar build-up to the line “old habits die screaming” which appears at the end of each chorus.
- Florida!!!
“Florida!!!” is the 8th track of the album and has a feature from Florence + The Machine. This song is another fun song that has the build-up aspect. Florence Welch’s vocals elevate the song entirely and make it the perfect contrast from the rest of the album.
- I Can Fix Him (no really I can)
Track 11 of the album is “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can).” This song has the sound if you entered a saloon in a Western movie, with lyrics referring to the term people use when they are attracted to someone with a questionable past or personality.
- Who’s afraid of little old me?
The song “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me” takes an angry stance and is a great song to sing aloud. The backing track of this song enhances the lyrics of the song making it a masterpiece.
- I Look In People’s Windows
“I Look in People’s Windows” is the 25th track of the album. It is a calming song that reminds me a lot of Swift’s ninth studio album Evermore. Even though this song is only two minutes and twelve seconds long the backing track is addicting to listen to and the lyrics like “what if your eyes looked up and met mine one more time” scratch my brain the right way.
- Fresh Out The Slammer
“Fresh Out The Slammer” is the seventh track and my most listened-to song from the album since its initial release. Swift relates her previous relationship to a jail and she now feels free. The sound of the chorus and lyrics make this song overall satisfying to hear and tell the perfect story.
- My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys
“My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys” is the 3rd track of the album. The melody is just perfect and the analogy of her being a toy with multiple toy-related lyrics in the song makes it even better. This song is an overall bop and has been on repeat since its initial release.
- Imgonnagetyouback
The song “Imgonnagetyouback” is the second track to the anthology and my favorite song on the album entirely. It’s a fun song and is completely underrated compared to songs like “I Can Do It with a Broken Heart” and “Florida.” The synth sound produced by Jack Antonoff mixed with the delivery of the lyrics make it satisfying to listen to. Lyrics like “Pick your poison babe, I’m poison either way” and many others show her indecisiveness that most go through when missing an ex.
