At the beginning of each school year, the Marching Sundevils persevere through hot summer morning practices in preparation for Friday night football games and Saturday competitions. At the heart of it all is our current drum major is senior Bella Seminario.
“The feeling of being on the field and putting on a production invigorated me, and that passion has continued to strengthen with every season that I go through in the sport,” said Seminario.
Seminario has a passion for marching band and more specifically, taking on the role of drum major.
“As the drum major, my main physical job is to conduct the band and keep all of the different sections of the band in time and connected,” said Seminario. “However, a lot of my job comes in the mentality and overall supervision of the band. I make sure that all of the students in the band have the guidance and assistance they need in order to be successful, leading by example to, hopefully, be a role model for my peers.”
Being does an exceptional job of connecting with the other band members.
“She is incredibly understanding and patient with us, and is a great example of how to act if you’re unsure,” said junior Oliver Phillips. “She is very welcoming to newcomers and is always open to hearing new ideas.”
Not only does Seminario act as a leader, but she also encourages them at their lows.
“Much of what I have learned from marching band is resilience and understanding to be okay with failure,” said Seminario. “As a student leader, I have faced incredible amounts of hardships, but none have stopped me from continuing to pursue my passion for this art.”
Seminario is not afraid to talk about her hardships because so much of what she has gone through has pushed her into the leader she is now.
“She’s a big role model as I want to become [a leader],” said sophomore Zoe Valverde. “I always learn from her achievements and mistakes as I know she knows what she’s doing.”
As the Marching Sundevils progress through their season, Seminario is determined to accomplish her goals.
“I have the drive to accomplish what I want to, and I won’t let outside factors take that away from me,” said Seminario.
The Marching Sundevils will be performing TODAY for the Homecoming Game. Come out to support Seminario and the band!
