During the month of October, Mountain Dew continued its tradition of selling a limited-time mystery soda flavor. While the drink is not perfect, this mystery flavor is a delightful addition to the Mountain Dew roster.
Enjoyability
The mystery VOODEW drink is best served cold. When I tasted it warm, the flavors got muddled down a bit, and the aftertaste was a bit strange. But, when I tried it cold, the flavor burst through and left me craving more. The only unlikeable element of the soda is how powerful the citrus flavor is. The citrus aftertaste is a little overbearing; however, it does not last long, and the actual flavor takes back control. Furthermore, the acidity made my eyes water when I took large sips, and my acid reflux reacted to it. Despite the intensity of the citrus taste, it wasn’t bad and it tasted delicious. In fact, it was the part of the drink that reminded me that I was drinking Mountain Dew.
Taste part 1 (Dew it taste like Dew?)
Mountain Dew is notable for its mellow taste with a hint of citrus at the end. The original soda lingers, and as the taste fades out slowly, the carbonation gently stings. In contrast, VOODEW’s citrus flavor is stronger and does not leave much room for the candy flavor to shine, unless I swallow the drink quickly. VOODEW is not quite as mellow as its predecessor, and I honestly kept forgetting that it was a Mountain Dew variant because of how strong the flavor was.
Taste part 2 (How Dew it taste?)
The 2024 VOODEW flavor was very scrumptious but also somewhat confusing. When I tried the drink warm, it tasted like grape soda. When I tried it cold, the flavor was more sophisticated; it transformed into a strawberry laffy-taffy flavor. The beverage also smelled like laffy-taffy, so I suspect that it was the intended flavor. Whatever the flavor is, it is addictive to sip. Every sip made me smile.
