At the end of October, I went to Disney World with my mom for the first time in 14 years. We attended Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, which is a seasonal event with exclusive food and trick-or-treating. Neither of us is very enthusiastic about rides, so food was the part of this trip I was most excited about.
I arrived at The All Star Music Resort on Saturday morning and went straight to Disney Springs. The first place we went was the Coca-Cola store, and we purchased a flight of different drinks from around the world.
Coca-Cola Rating: 3/10
Some of the drinks tasted decent, especially the fruity flavors. About half the drinks were not carbonated, and the flight included drinks from countries including Italy, Romania, Zimbabwe, and Thailand. Most of the drinks were mediocre, but some had a hand sanitizer taste that made me gag.
Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ Rating: 10/10
My mother and I went to Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ for brunch. This was by far the best brunch I have ever had, and I would go all the way back to Orlando just to have it again. My meal consisted of mac and cheese, a fruit cup, and biscuits. My only complaint was that the fruit wasn’t particularly fresh, but the rest was good enough to receive my perfect rating. The mac and cheese had the perfect texture with almost too much cheese. It tasted delicious, but I had to work my way around the pool of grease at the bottom. The biscuits stuck to the roof of my mouth but were seasoned well.
My mother’s meal at Homecomin’ is the reason that my rating is a 10/10 instead of an 8/10. She ordered an item called the Hallelujah Biscuit, which included a biscuit with fried chicken, an over-easy egg, and pimento cheese. I was expecting the pimento to ruin the whole dish, but it actually complimented it very well. The textures complimented each other perfectly, and I could eat this dish every day for the rest of my life.
The Ganachery S’more Rating: 4/10
Later in the day, I got a s’more from a chocolate store I came across called The Ganachery. I had high expectations for this since I love s’mores in any form. The texture wasn’t very diverse, as the entire thing was fairly soft. There was way too much salt on the top, which ruined the whole treat for me. When I removed the top piece, it tasted better, but it wasn’t enough to make me rate it higher.
All Star Sports Dining Hall Rating: 9/10
After a lot of walking around Disney Springs, my mother and I didn’t feel like going out for dinner, so we went to the dining hall at the All Star Sports Resort. I was surprised at how good it was for dining hall food. The green beans were the best part of this dish; they were buttery and light with the perfect amount of seasoning. The cauliflower was crispy and went well with the shrimp sauce. The shrimp was delicious, but the sauce didn’t blend well with the texture of the shrimp.
Olivia’s Cafe Rating: 9/10
To start off my Sunday morning, my mother and I went to Olivia’s Cafe at the Old Key West Resort. We got tropical fruit as an appetizer, and all of it was very refreshing. The only part that I didn’t like was the little acai bowl, which tasted very mediocre and was too liquid. For my entree, I decided to go for a chicken caesar salad, which is a hard meal to mess up. It ended up being one of the best salads I’ve ever had. The lettuce was cold and crisp with the perfect amount of cheese. The croutons were crunchy and had the perfect amount of seasoning. Since it was my birthday, I also got a free cupcake. It wasn’t the most visually appealing but it had a delicious whipped icing.
The Confectionary Rating: 2/10
I went to Magic Kingdom in the afternoon, so I didn’t have enough time to eat dinner. When I eventually got hungry, I went to The Confectionary on Main Street. I got a custom container of popcorn and made some pretty bad choices. I don’t know what was going through my mind when I mixed Snickers and Skittles, but it was not great. When I ate my way around the Skittles, it was actually pretty good for the first few bites. It quickly became much too sweet and the smell of it made me gag by the end of the night.
