As the holidays near and the weather gets colder, students begin to anticipate the beginning of winter break and the holidays. Students have various ways they spend the holidays, such as exchanging presents, indulging in meals with family, and decorating Christmas trees.
“I celebrate Christmas. We put up a tree, eat tons of food, and give presents,” said junior Tiffany Ye. “There’s this Chinese show me and my family would watch. It has a lot of performances that wrap up the year; it’s very fun. When it snows, we’ll go out and make a snowman.”
Similar to Ye, other students spend the holidays with family by putting up a tree and other decorations to celebrate.
“My family tends to decorate our living room with string lights in December, along with setting up a Christmas tree,” said sophomore Robert Perry.
Along with decorating and spending time with family and friends, students look forward to their favorite aspects of the holidays.
“I like getting gifts: it’s nice [and] fun,” said junior Emma Miller. “I give gifts too, [so] I’m not just taking everything [laughs]. I’m a good person, I swear.”
Others’ favorite part of celebrating the holidays is the atmosphere that the winter traditions bring.
“I like the vibes. I like hanging out with friends and family and getting stuff,” said Ye.
And, of course, for some students, the best part about the holidays is the much-appreciated winter break.
“[My favorite part of the holidays is] probably the break from school,” said Perry. “It’s nice to not have to worry about much for a couple of weeks.”
Hope you had a happy holidays and enjoyed your break Sundevils!
