On January 22, 2022, Virginia Beach accumulated around three and a half inches of snow. After 2022, many Virginia Beach residents waited patiently for the chance of snow, but all hope fell flat by the end of each winter season. Finally, nearly three years later, rumors of icy precipitation began to spark. On January 10, 2025, at around 10:30PM, snow began to land on the ground.
“I’ve always wanted to try snowboarding,” said sophomore John Diwa, “but I haven’t been able to with the lack of snow.”
Along with many others, senior Eli Shuhy agrees that the snow provides a chance for new and enjoyable experiences.

“I love it! It’s so pretty and it’s very nice when it cancels school,” said Shuhy.
Even though Virginia Beach experienced more snow than it had in the past three years, many were disappointed as Saturday’s snow only stuck in patches before melting completely.
“The snow on Saturday was underwhelming,” said junior Alana Whitfield. “I didn’t miss snow, but I was kinda excited to see it because it had been a minute.”
With only about one inch and with the rising temperatures the snow melted by the early afternoon and there was little time for people to experience the snow.

But a little over a week later, the ground got covered in about three inches of snow. Because of the temperatures stayed in the upper 20s, the snow and ice caused school cancellations for the rest of the week.
Snow in Virginia Beach has been somewhat of an anomaly, with some winters providing up to a foot of snow, and some having temperatures in the 70s. Even though this year’s snowfall has not lived up to the expectations of some, the amount of snow has surpassed previous years by a long shot.
