The New Year’s holiday is filled with traditions such as vision boards, resolutions, and predictions. With an emerging trend where people create bingo cards for events they think will happen during the year, many are thinking ahead about the future.
The SunDevil Times staff has created a list of events from sports, to pop culture, music & art, technology, and politics that they predict will happen this year.
Editor Lily Check predicts “The Eagles will win the Super Bowl.” The Super Bowl is happening February 9th with the NFL divisional rounds currently going on as the Super Bowl nears.
Senior Morgan Lombardi predicts “AI will continue its advancement in 2025.” This has already started to happen but Lombardi believes “the AI will start copying from other AI’s work even more, but I think this will confuse the AI and have it evolve backward.”
Senior Andrew Murphy predicts “students are going to become more rebellious and sneaky with the new cell phone policy,” which went into effect on January 6th. The policy says students are unable to use personal devices during the school day except at lunch.
Senior Olivia Mcgee predicts “Chappell Roan will lose her popularity or get canceled.” With her fast growth in popularity during 2024, many believe that it will decline just as fast. Many of her fans are very curious to see how she continues to grow this year.
Senior Elijah Harfst believes “Disney Channel pop-rock style music will make a comeback in 2025.” This style showcases artists like Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, and Olivia Rodrigo who starred on numerous Disney shows as kids and grew up to pursue angst-filled careers in pop-rock music.
Editor Kenny Warlick predicts that “After Luigi Mangione [United Healthcare CEO shooter] people will start to realize the manipulation by many CEO’s.” Warlick thinks “[this will] start protests.” With the recent news related to Luigi Mangione’s trial, his case will definitely continue to be a topic of conversation in 2025.
Sophomore John Diwa predicts “Wicked 2 will be the highest-grossing movie of 2025.” This is very likely considering that according to tntribune.com Wicked earned $424 million at the domestic box office and surpassed Grease as the top domestic Broadway adaptation.”
Sophomore Adrian Lumba predicts “the genre P-pop (Pinoy Pop) will become more popular in 2025.” The genre originated in the Philippines but has been growing in its US audience in recent years. Lumba believes groups like SB19 and BINI will continue to thrive with their international audience.
Junior Isaiah Bolden predicts “Beyonce will drop a rock/alternative album for Act lll.” Her recent remarks about a new release have many fans trying to guess what she has in store. With her recent experimentation in new styles, many believe her new album will steer towards the alt/rock direction.
Junior Em Montalvo believes “Taylor Swift will drop a 40-song album. Some of them [the new songs] are going to be written with AI, resulting in Swifties falling further into denial.” With her “Eras Tour” coming to an end in 2024, it is likely that she will release something in 2025. There are conspiracies that popular artists will start to use AI more in their music due to the rising use of it in the industry.
Editor Rylee Partridge predicts “Hailey Bieber and Justin Bieber will divorce.” The couple got married in 2018 and renewed their vows last year. Their relationship has had many ups and downs including Justin’s diagnosis with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome in 2023, which led to his facial paralysis. This has led many fans of the couple to question the strength of their relationship.
Sophomore Jay Pena predicts “Really bad 2000s post-grunge music and bands will come back.” With Creed’s hit “Higher” making a comeback in 2024, it is not unlikely that the 2000s post-grunge scene will make a comeback. “I would not be shocked if a band like Creed, Nickelback, or Puddle of Mudd became popular again and genuinely enjoyed in 2025,” said Pena.
Freshman Lujhie Paule predicts “ Melanie Martinez’s career will decline in popularity.” She Is already facing backlash for her coloring books related to her albums, and other recent controversies.
Sophomore Ariyana Roberts predicts “Sabrina Carpenter will play Rapunzel in the live-action Rapunzel.” With her recent popularity in 2024 and her past experiences with acting, fans believe that she will star in more movies in the future.
Journalism Advisor Mrs. Kathleen Trace predicts that “we will see a significant breakthrough in personalized AI tutoring that can adapt to each student’s unique learning style, pace, and areas of weakness.”
