The hip-hop unit consists of Choi Seungcheol, Kim Min-gyu, Jeon Wonwoo, and Hansol Vernon Chwe. They did not have an official debut, and instead recorded tracks for the other units. Their first ever appearance with the song “Ah Yeah” on May 29, 2015 on SEVENTEEN’s first mini album, 17 Carat.
Choi Seungcheol, commonly known as S.coups is the general leader of SEVENTEEN, the oldest in the group, and the hip-hop unit leader. Although he is the Main rapper, he is also a sub-vocalist. He is known to look at the news about SEVENTEEN, and is the most likely to look at their reputation, and what the members are doing. He’s the strongest and the most competitive in the group.
Kim Min-gyu, or Mingyu, is the lead rapper, sub-vocalist, visual, and one of the “Faces of The Group”. He’s the member that cleans the most, yet he’s the one that breaks stuff the most. He’s the main target for making fun of in SEVENTEEN, but the members say otherwise off-camera. He’s the main cook for SEVENTEEN, and last year became an ambassador for Dior.
Jeon Wonwoo, or Wonwoo, is the lead rapper and sub-vocalist. He originally auditioned to be a vocalist, and he was supposed to be. However, because of his deep voice, the company made him one of the rappers. He still occasionally shows his vocals every now and then. He’s the cleanest member and the most introverted among the members according to SEVENTEEN.
Hansol Vernon Chwe, commonly known as Vernon, is the main rapper, sub-vocalist, visual, and one of the “Faces of The Group.” The Chwe in his name was misspelled by his mom, and it was meant to be Choi instead. He is one of the foreigners from the four in the group, born in New York. He’s known for his terrible outfits in public and never being serious. He is unique and does not provide the usual idol image compared to other idols. He is a part of the Maknae line, the second youngest in the group.
