Many people have no idea what a high school bookkeeper does. It definitely does not entail watching the books in the library. A high school bookkeeper handles all the money that comes in and out of the school. It is an incredibly important job.
Kristina Foster filled the bookkeeper position at Salem just a few weeks ago, and she is already making positive improvements.
Foster decided on bookkeeping as a career because she has a love for numbers, puzzles, and challenges.
“I decided to work for the school system when my daughter was in the second grade,” said Foster.” “I liked being on the same schedule as her and bringing her to school with me. I have worked in elementary, middle, and now high school.”

Foster encourages students to set goals for themselves, no matter how small they may be. She has a goal for herself: attending school full time and taking online classes to get her degree.
When Foster was offered the position at Salem she jumped at the opportunity.
“I was told that no other school could top the staff and student body here, and they were right!” said Foster. “There is such a positive vibe here, from the kindness and respect I see in the students to how welcoming the staff and Admin team are.”
Foster spends her off time doing the things she loves, such as being outdoors, especially if it involves the beach. She says it is her happy place. Foster loves kayaking as well.

“I am always up for an adventure, whether it’s gardening, exploring, or just soaking up the sun,” said Foster. “The best part is doing it all with my daughter and our dog, Lucky.”

Foster did not plan on becoming a bookkeeper, but she ended up loving it. She gets to work with numbers, solve little puzzles every day, and be part of a great school community.
“It’s not always easy, but it is definitely worth it,” said Foster. “Just work hard, stay kind and open to where life takes you, you never know what you might end up loving.”
