The Egg Bistro (Independence location) was recommended to me by a few friends, so I decided to check it out.
When I arrived around 9:45 AM on the 30th of May, I found the place sprawling with customers. Almost every table was full, except one small table in the back, which is where I sat. There were many vibrant colors inside the small brunch cafe; oranges, reds, and yellows lit the place up giving it a lively feel.
After sitting down, my waitress, Kaylee, introduced herself and asked for my order. After scanning the menu two things caught my eye. The Cinnamon Swirl French Toast: two pieces of french toast topped with powdered sugar and infused with cinnamon. The other was the breakfast omelet: a simple wrap with lettuce, chicken, and a few other greens. I eventually settled on the Cinnamon Swirl French Toast before beginning to further take in my surroundings.
I caught the tv playing news about the stock market, which I thought was definitely an odd choice given I was in a brunch cafe. Although, I did like that most of the pictures were albums or references to a band.
Around twenty or so minutes after placing my order, I received my food. I quickly noticed the steam rising from the french toast, which gave the indication that it was just cooked. After I took my second bite I noticed that the french toast was a bit dry. While yes, I admit, french toast can be difficult to make at times, but here it is a popular item and it shouldn’t be dry. My potato cubes however, were perfect. Just crispy enough on the outside, while soft on the inside. The food was good; it just was not great like I’d hoped.
Before leaving Kaylee came around once again and asked , “Is everything tasting alright?”
I didn’t want them to have to remake the food, so I just said yes. I wasn’t lying when I said that. The food was good, but it was not what I’d hoped.
For atmosphere, I would rate The Egg Bistro 5 Stars, because the place was kept well clean, the colors were very nice and welcoming, and the pictures added a good touch to the atmosphere.
For service, I would rate it 4 Stars. Kaylee was an excellent waitress and I’d love to have her again. However, I’m not certain about the chef who made the french toast.
On that note, I’ll have to give the food 2.5 Stars. I ordered a signature dish that should be prepared correctly. It wasn’t inedible, but it wasn’t what I was hoping for. The cubed potatoes were great, but it wasn’t the main meal, so I can’t give them many props for that.
In total, I’d have to award The Egg Bistro 3.7 Stars out of 5. It wasn’t amazing, the atmosphere and service were what really made it good. I hope the food today was just an error, but if not, I’d recommend enjoying another dish.
That’s all from me! My last ever review!
