Here we are in the future

New season of Steven Universe does not disappoint

Ava Lutz, Staff Writer

The Steven Universe franchise soared to new heights, after the release of Steven Universe: The Movie. Rebecca Sugar, the creator of this fun loving story line, has already started working on Steven Universe: Future

The fan base is raving over the new series, already starting to formulate theories for future episodes. As of right now, only ten episodes have been released, and the show is now taking a hiatus. The character development of each one of the characters since episode one of the original show has been impressive. From younger Steven not being able to summon his shield, to older Steven struggling to control his newfound power.

Even though there have only been ten released episodes, there is still a lot to unpack. We see Jasper, a previously corrupted gem, bring out Steven’s new power for the first time. We also meet Bluebird, a fusion of a Ruby (Eyeball) and Aquamarine, both of which hate Steven. They end up causing a traumatic event in which Greg loses a part of him.

A bunch of Steven’s close friends also depart from him. He took that news a lot harder than he thought he would and he has a mental break down.

The trailer shows Steven displaying immense amounts of negative emotions, which brought the fandom to believe the worst. Maybe a major character death?, While watching episode one, we see that Steven has suddenly unlocked a new ability, one that taps into his emotions, and one he can’t control.

The new Steven Universe: The Movie is a definite must watch, but it is important to watch the original show first. The animation style and story line are magnificent in both the movie and the show and the soundtrack is fantastic. If you haven’t checked out Steven Universe now might be the time.
