Domo Sushi Review

Highly recommended

Before COVID-19, I would visit sushi restaurants quite often and since most of the ones I usually went to are still closed, I decided to look for one close-by that offers takeout or delivery.

After about 30 minutes of searching for a decent, cheap restaurant, the place that I found was called Domo Sushi located in the Brenneman Farm Marketplace in Virginia Beach. Looking at the reviews and menu, their food prices were not too bad, ranging from $3-$12 for appetizers and $4-$14 for their rolls and specialties. I placed a call right away and made an order.

I ordered three bento boxes with complementary miso soup, salad, and crab rangoon. Bento boxes are very traditional in Japan. Included with these boxes were a variety of sushi rolls, but my family and I stuck with the volcano roll, salmon avocado roll, california roll, and the shrimp tempura roll. All together our meals came out to be $30, which is very cheap for a sushi restaurant.

After about 20 minutes, we went to go pick up the food. Although the restaurant is very close to my home, I’ve never been to it, but walking in to pay (with masks), the inside was very beautiful and welcoming. I could only imagine how much nicer it would have been to have a sit down dinner again. Paying overall was very quick and the sweet cashier made sure we had everything before departing.

Because we could only do togo, we could not have the actual bento box present with us, but instead with recyclable styrofoam boxes. Since I’ve never been to Domo Sushi before, I was unsure about how well preserved their raw fish would taste, but just getting a short glimpse at the sushi looked promising and fresh.

Biting into the sushi, was just amazing. It didn’t break apart and it tasted like they just caught the fish themselves before we got there. Obviously they didn’t, but that’s just how good it was. Normally, I get full off of sushi really quickly, but this time around I finished every single piece I had, including the small soup and salad.

After my experience with Domo Sushi, I’ve ordered from there about 3 more times throughout quarantine and each time it only gets better, with their wonderful sushi chefs and services.
