Have you ever wished you could participate in a game show? Well for junior James Hayes, this is no dream. Although Scholastic Bowl is not exactly a game show, it is a competitive after school club where teams from all over the city compete against each other in tests of knowledge. Hayes has a lot on his plate, but still finds time to co-captain the Scholastic Bowl team with fellow junior Sean Dargusch.

“I am most knowledgeable in music, capitals, and world flags,” said Hayes, “and Sean is strong in sports, science, and history.”

Hayes and Dargusch work hard to stay ahead of the game.

“Sean was on the team a year before me, and is always capable of answering the questions I can’t even understand,” said Hayes.

Scholastic bowl is a serious commitment. Dargusch helps Hayes given his extra year of experience.

“We work together to help train new members, and fortunately this year we did a good enough job to get to regionals,” said Dargusch.

Co-captaining a team like the Scholastic bowl is a challenge, but Dargusch and Hayes have each other’s backs.

“The Pandemic has affected us, but not as strongly as I originally expected,” said Hayes. “Fortunately, we have had somewhat of a season. My best memories are, from my only full year and from my brief virtual year, definitely the time we spent practicing.”
