Since Governor Ralph Northam mandated masks in all public places on May 26, 2020, choosing which mask to wear has become part of nearly everyone’s morning routine. Masks range from neutral and disposable to patterned and reusable.

Solid colors are popular because they are so versatile.

“I wear a black mask because it generally goes with every outfit and just looks nice,” said junior Sidney Sindt.

Yet for some, specific shades and designs are popular as a result of not wanting the colors in their outfit to clash.

“It bothers me if it’s a pop of color that’s off. I work at Starbucks and we can’t have a lot of color anyways. I usually try to match my headband. I don’t like it when the colors conflict,” said senior Kyla Thomas.

On the other hand, some students focus on practicality rather than fashionability.

“I wear a disposable mask, mainly because it’s the most convenient and lightweight,” said junior Maya Lysinger. “It matches everything I wear and as an academy student, really helps with different exercises!”

Whatever fashion choice you make with your mask, just make sure to wear one so you’re protected and you’re protecting others.
