Will the 2020s roar as much as the 1920s?

Might we see a roaring 2020s similar to the roaring 1920s due to COVID?

In 1918, the world was hit by one of the most severe pandemics on record, The Spanish Flu. Over two years about 500 million people came down with Spanish Flu and 50 million people died because of it. To put that into perspective, about 3.34 million people have died from COVID worldwide (as of May 14 2021, according to the CDC).

In 1918, the world was at the end of World War 1 AND Spanish Flu was spreading wildly. When all the darkness and death was done by the 1920s, people celebrated! The 1920s saw revolutions in literature, music, art, and fashion just to name a few.

So is this what we can expect from our roaring ‘20s?

It would be safe to assume we will see advances in literature, music, art, and fashion just like in the 1920s, but also in technology.

According to the World Economic Forum, technology is going to have a boom of new advances around 2025. Many of these advances are expected to reduce the carbon footprint of the manufacturing and technology industries.

While fashion and technology are exciting, what students we talked to are really excited about is getting back to their “normal” lives: seeing friends and extended family, going out to eat, going to the beach and amusement parks.

Sophomore Abby Johnson plans on going to the Cheesecake Factory, celebrating her birthday with friends, and traveling.

“I really want to go to Mexico, like the Cancun area somewhere around there, a nice vacation,” said Johnson.
