On October 6, it was announced that senior Riley Robbins would be representing Salem in the state golf tournament. The competition took place in Harrisonburg Virginia the week of October 10.

“I’m honored to be able to represent our school at the state tournament and excited to compete against the best players in the state,” said Robbins.

Robbins didn’t have to make the trip to Harrisonburg alone. He traveled with Golf Coach Richard Hudak and fellow golfer, sophomore Cole Cooper who supported Robbins as his caddy.

“I wanted to help him as much as I could and make sure he didn’t get into his head so he could play well,” said Cooper.

Robbins is the golf team’s captain and averages a 76 per round. According to Hudak, Robbins appreciates his teammates and is respectful to everyone, including his opponents.

“Riley is very dedicated to his craft,” said Hudak. “He wants to be a great golfer and he is very diligent about it.”

Going into the tournament, no one had any concerns for Robbins because they believed that he would play to the best of his ability. Robbins himself believed that as well.

“I wouldn’t say I had any concerns,” said Robbins. “I know I’m good enough to play with the best. I just needed to play stress free and do my thing.”

Junior Mark Kearns is a former teammate of Robbins’.

“Riley’s been good since the first time I’ve practiced with the team in my freshman year, no doubt he’ll smoke em’ at states,” said Kearns.

Robbins played one practice round on the 10th and then a competitive round on the 11th. He shot a 76 and placed 23rd out of 60.
