Ryan Murphy, a television writer known for Glee, American Horror Story and most recently, Dahmer – along with screenwriter, Ian Brennan, have created a Netflix series based on the unsolved “watcher” case.

I’ve been a picky series binger most of my life with a particular interest in horror, suspense, and true crime so I decided to try this series.

The “Review Geek” Arnav Srivastava refers to “The Watcher” as “an endless cascade of red herrings and twists that leaves you with no answers.”

The series is undeniably mysterious, but it lacks depth in most areas. The entire show seems to be based on false twists which, in my opinion, confuses the storyline. I give its plot/storyline score a 4/10 and as for true story correlation connection rating I give it a 4/10

The characters/actors have a weird chemistry. It makes it seem like any of them could be the villain. From what I’ve seen, there is very little long-lasting suspense or chemistry present beteen characters with the exception of Dean Brannock (Bobby Cannavale), the neighbor couple, Mitch (Richard Kind) and Mo (Margo Martindale). Noma Dumezweni, and Jennifer Coolidge also do some impressive acting. The characters are extremely difficult to relate to on many levels.

On a brighter note, the camera shots are pretty original and visually pleasing. I give the cinematography a score of 8/10.

After finishing the series I found the ending was very disappointing. I won’t share why to avoid spoilers, but you’ll see what I’m talking about if you watch it.

I give “The Watcher” an overall rating of 6.5/10. I usually love shows in this genre, but it quickly bored me because it seemed to be leading nowhere.
