Q: What is the most exciting aspect of your new position as acting superintendent?
A: Being able to represent one of the finest K12 educational institutions in the country. VBCPS is widely seen in Virginia as the best large school division (50,000 students or more) and as one of the top 5 school divisions (out of 139) in Virginia. Further, we have been nationally ranked by various educational organizations as one of the top 5% of school divisions in the entire country. Having worked in this division for 35+ years, as a teacher/coach, school administrator AP/P, and central office administrator has allowed me to be heavily involved in the work that has led to this lofty reputation as a high quality school division.
Q: What are your main goals in this position?
A: To keep this division moving forward in our quest to create Future Ready Learners that are prepared to succeed after high school, whether that is through enrollment in a post-secondary institution, enlistment into the Armed Forces, or employment. To ensure our staff feel seen, known, valued and cared for by students, staff, and parents. To serve as the chief evangelist with all stakeholders on the great work occurring within VBCPS.
Q: How did your experience at Salem prepare you for this position?
A: Salem HS is a hidden gem! The school community is diverse and represents a microcosm of our community. Serving as principal at Salem for almost 7 years allowed me to hone my leadership skills in an environment of trust and hope.
Q: Please share a favorite memory from Salem.
A: I have so many, but the one I will share is when I was able to secure Timbaland to visit Salem and present to an auditorium full of surprised students. This was priceless!

A: The most rewarding time of my 35+ year education career came when I had the honor and privilege to serve as the principal of Salem HS!
