In the two months that most of us have been largely quarantined to our homes we have been unable to train with teams or go to the gym, but that doesn’t mean we can’t stay fit. We just need to get creative.

Senior Jessica Watkins jump ropes in her front yard to stay fit. “I do all kinds of things to stay fit at home,” said Watkins, “but I do miss dance.” (Submitted by: J. Watkins)

Junior Abigail Conant has been staying fit biking and roller skating.

Conant was very active in school as a member of the Visual and Performing Arts Academy vocal strand and president of film club, so this extra time has meant more time for fitness.

Sophomore Jiezel Delosreyes used to work out at the gym, but since “the start of quarantine” he has “been taking bike rides.”

“I’ve learned that it is much harder to get tired because I am in my house all day instead of a gym,” said Delosreyes.

Sophomore Gabrielle Shook, a dancer and softball player, has not let gym closures impede her workout routine.

“I have been working out outside every day during quarantine, and have learned to keep adding more exercises because of the quarantine, “ said Shook. “I also make sure to not slack, so I do not let myself go.”

If you’re not sure how to get started maintaining fitness without a gym try starting with a walk, jog, or bike ride. There are also tons of free YouTube videos with workout routines from kickboxing to yoga. There is no better time than now to ensure that you are in top physical health.
