Without a doubt, I am totally a member of the food connoisseur community. Even though my skills in the kitchen merely pass as adequate, I certainly love to assess different local eateries to see if they have what it takes to become the next trending hot spot.

The Sweet Spot, a dessert and premium ice cream shop, has been serving up sweet treats to customers since it opened at the Oceanfront in 2016. To the elation of many, a second location opened up closer to the Salem area in 2021. Due to the overall success of the shop and praise from foodies everywhere, I decided to check it out with friends, and ultimately, I could not have been happier with our visit.

As soon as I stepped through the door, the pink, vibrant atmosphere automatically made me feel like I was being transported into a magical land of sweetness. If you have a passion for pink, then this is definitely the place for you; there was an astounding amount of pink accent walls, pink chairs, and pink LED signs to match the style of menu items. Not to mention the aesthetic flower swing in the corner of the shop, where you can find all of the Instagrammers, Snapchatters, and bloggers you could ever imagine.

Following my period of brief astonishment, I made my way to the menu stand to see what I wanted to order. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of items and creative ice cream flavors that were available.

Menu items include cake and charcuterie, bubble waffles, explosive milkshakes, funnel cakes, churros, ice cream, donuts, and other simple treats such as smoothies, coffees, and lemonades. Based solely on my observations, the explosive milkshakes are the most popular item among customers, with bubble waffles coming in as a close second.

However, the prices of the items were not as pleasing. Explosive milkshakes come in at a whopping $15.95, while bubble waffles can range anywhere from $12.99 to $14.99. Even though my eyes widened when I first glanced at the prices, I knew it would all be worth it when I first got a look at our luscious desserts.

We ended up ordering the “Strawberry Fresh” bubble waffle, the “Churrito” explosive milkshake, and the “Vanilla Stuffed” donuts. The woman taking our order was very nice and genuinely seemed happy to be there.

We then sat down at a table, and to our surprise, they delivered our desserts within five to seven minutes of us ordering. The fact that the workers could make three complex desserts in such a short amount of time really impressed my friends and I.

All three desserts tasted wonderful and were exceptionally crafted. Each item was incredibly creative, as all of the components complemented each other to a great degree. The only negative, however, was that each dessert was extremely sweet, and even though my friends and I were able to finish them, the amount of sugar may be too overwhelming for other customers.

Overall, I give this dessert bar a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Its aesthetically pleasing ambiance and the shop’s ability to create original desserts certainly give it an advantage over other ice cream places.
