One of our new Assistant Principals, Dr. Corrin Bacs, has already started making an impact. From organizing the master schedule over the summer to making sure all of our seniors graduate on time, she plays a vital role on our administrative team.

Dr. Bacs’s impact has been felt throughout the building. She has multiple responsibilities, including overseeing the English and Guidance teams, the Master Schedule, attendance, on-time graduation, and the dropout task force.
Her path to Salem High School has been a long one.
“I’ve worked in the school division for 18 years, starting at W. T. Cooke Elementary and Virginia Beach Middle School,” said Dr. Bacs. “I then moved to Virginia Beach Middle School, assistant principal at Tallwood High School for six years, then became a Salem SunDevil last summer!”
Dr. Bacs’ first administrative role was in Green Run High School as a School Improvement Specialist before becoming an Assistant Principal.
“As an administrator, school division leadership can move you to a new school as needed,” said Dr. Bacs. “That’s how I came to Salem.”
It’s not her first time being transferred from school to school, and she has been fitting in very well here.
“Dr. Bacs is an experienced educator with the right attitude and focus,” said VPAA Academy Coordinator Mrs. Sharon Byrd. “I like the way her brain works. She balances rigor, expectations, requirements, and support for students and staff.”
Counselor Bryan Everett has similar feelings.
“Dr. Bacs is a great addition to the Salem HS community. She comes with a wealth of experience as an administrator,” said Everett. “Salem is lucky to have her as a Sundevil family member.”
She’s not all about business either. She enjoys traveling, creating art, attending music festivals, and watching basketball. Her favorite teams range from our very own SunDevils to professional teams such as the Boston Celtics.
“There are so many things that I love about Salem,” said Dr. Bacs. “I love the staff who care immensely for our students’ academic success, and our students, who are open-minded, embrace differences, and strive to be their best, [and] I love that Salem is the ’Standard of Excellence’ in all we do!”
Make sure next time you see her in the hallway, you give her a big hello!
