We’re thrilled to introduce one of the newest faces joining the Salem High School family: Ms. Kalyn Martin, who has stepped into the role of Co-Teacher in the English 9 Department. A recent veteran of Independence Middle School, she is excited to bring some love, dedication, and passion to our students and community. We sat down with Martin to learn more about her journey.
Q: What do you teach and/or what is your role? Please include sports and club sponsorships.
A: I am supporting English 9 this year as a co-teacher. I love so many different sports, but before I committed to coaching or sponsoring a club, I wanted to become comfortable as a Sundevil. I am hopeful to take more action next year!
Q: Where were you previously, and what brought you to Salem?
A: I previously taught 8th-grade math. I am really impressed with the school pride here at Salem, which was a huge driving force for my decision to come here.
Q: What is your favorite thing about Salem so far?
A: Salem has really impressed me with their dedication to homecoming week! It was so fun to see the decorated halls and to see the staff and students booming with excitement.
Q: What inspired you to go into education (or work in a school)?
A: I remember in 1st grade telling my teacher that I wanted to be just like her, and from that moment on, teaching has been a dream of mine.
Q: Share a fun fact about yourself (favorite music, hobbies, books).
A: I am a big sports fan, concert-goer, and binge-watcher.
