We’re thrilled to introduce one of the newest faces joining the Salem High School family: Mrs. Pacheco Forehand, who has stepped into the role of eleventh and twelfth grade English teacher. A veteran of Salem Middle and Green Run High, she is excited to bring her fun personality to our students and community. We sat down with Mrs. Pacheco-Forehand to learn more about her journey.
What do you teach and/or what is your role? Please include sports and club sponsorships.
I teach 11th-grade English and a sprinkle of 12th-grade English. I am the Class of 2029 sponsor, too!
Where were you previously, and what brought you to Salem?
Ms. Baker encouraged me to apply to Salem High. I’m glad that I did! Most recently, I was hired in February at Landstown High School to teach 10th-grade English and 12th AP English because their teacher shockingly passed away with no warning. Prior to that, I long-term subbed at Green Run in the English department. I needed to get my feet wet teaching again. I was at Salem Middle School for 8 years, but I had to step away and concentrate on family concerns.
What is your favorite thing about Salem so far?
I love seeing students from Salem Middle. I love that this school feels like a community. The students are phenomenal and make each day fun and challenging.
What inspired you to go into education (or work in a school)?
I’m a career switcher who used to travel across the country, promote services, and make lots of money. But life was meaningless. So I jumped into teaching by completing an 18 month, once a week program called “Career Switchers.” It did NOT prepare me for middle school. But I don’t think anything can prepare one for middle school behaviors.
Share a fun fact about yourself (favorite music, hobbies, books).
I can ride a unicycle, although not very well anymore. Actually if you lived on Oceana Naval Base in the 80’s, you most likely can ride a unicycle. Seemed like we all decided to learn – see what happens when you don’t have Netflix or TikTok?
