What do you teach and/or what is your role?
I am currently a Permanent Substitute at Salem HS.
Where were you previously, and what brought you to Salem?
I am a former educator and a Virginia-licensed teacher. I taught Math, Science, and Programming for seven years across several districts, including Norfolk Public Schools, Fairfax County Public Schools, Clark County School District (Las Vegas), and Dallas Independent School District. I later transitioned into a new career in cybersecurity (2023), but my roots are here in Virginia Beach—I’m a VBCPS high school graduate. My connection to the area is what brought me back to Salem.
What is your favorite thing about Salem so far?
My favorite thing about Salem so far is the strong school spirit and the warm, welcoming environment. The students are incredibly respectful, and the staff have been exceptionally friendly. I’ve worked in many districts, and Salem truly stands out.
What inspired you to go into education (or work in a school)?
I still have a deep love for the classroom and for working with students K–12. I genuinely enjoy the bonds and connections I’ve made with my students over the years—it’s something that’s hard to put into words. I value education, and I believe creating a safe, fun, and supportive learning environment is essential for our future—the kids.
Share a fun fact about yourself (favorite music, hobbies, books).
I have two toy poodles named Cinnamon (female) and Chocolate (male)—which also happen to be my two favorite flavors for just about any treat!
