Senior Chase Udan is the co-captain of our Varsity gymnastics team alongside co-captain Reagan Ramsey. This is Udan’s fourth year on the team and her first year as captain. She has strength and resilience but remains humble.
“Chase, in her role of team captain, is hardworking, supportive, dedicated, and caring,” said junior Amaya Gonzalez. “I’m always amazed by how she flows through her routines and is so sleek with her landings.”
Udan’s start began at age eight learning skills that gave her the advantage and confidence needed to step up and join gymnastics in high school. While starting at a young age, she was able to gain the necessary skills that led her to her current success.
“I would describe Chase as someone who keeps her team collected,” said senior Margaret Adolphe. “Chase, as a captain, always shows how she can stay composed, [even] in the toughest routines, she looks flawless. She is always cheering her teammates on and making sure she leads them in the right path to be the best gymnasts they can!”Since Udan’s freshman year, she has improved immensely while also shaping her character. While competing in every event in gymnastics including bars, beam, floor, and vault, Udan brings a high level of skill to each event. Completing a full tumbling pass and a strug dance component on floor, a cast handstand and freehip handstand on bars, and backhandspring and roundoff on beam, all allow her to demonstrate her skills.
“When she was a freshman, she had a different view on competing in gymnastics in club, but now she has grasped how it works in high school,” said Coach Robin Stancil. “Her developed skills, maturity, and overcoming obstacles and frustrations all show that she is ready to compete at regionals.”
Udan will be graduating soon, leaving behind a better team than the one she joined. She helped the team grow to be the best version it can be.
“I love having someone [like her, who] pushes me to be better,” said Adolphe, “Chase and I always talk about little things together, whether it’s [at] school or practice. [Her] smile is always so genuine when we have conversations.”
Salem’s varsity gymnastics team has been truly grateful to have Chase Udan on the team. Whether she was at practice, competitions, or in the role as team captain, she was able to bring her bright spirit and skill to the team.
