Sonny Angels, the cute, tiny angel minifigures that wear all sorts of headgear, have boomed in popularity since 2023. These minifigures are packaged in blindboxes, meaning you don’t know which figure you’re going to get until you open a box. These angels with various hats and accessories became popular on social media, and many videos showcase unboxing Sonny Angels and other blindbox lines such as Smiskis. Sonny Angels are collected by loyal customers, such as senior Rianna David.
“I have about 50 Sonny Angels in my growing collection, and I’d say most of them are from the Sonny Angel Dog Time series,” said David. “I purchased a full box of the puppy Sonny Angels, which consisted of all nine collectible figures.”
There are over 500 varieties of collectible Sonny Angels, with over 12 regular series. Each Sonny Angel series has a distinct theme. Examples include the Dog Time series, featuring Sonny Angels wearing different dog hats and matching hoodies. Another popular series is the Sonny Angel Hipper series, which can be attached to electronic devices such as phones or laptops using an adhesive sticker. Still, both types of figures can be displayed anywhere, like a desk or a bookshelf.
“There is a good amount of my Sonny Angels displayed at my work, while the rest are scattered all around my house,” said David. “There’s one by the sink for while I do dishes, three next to my bed, and a ton of others hidden in places I don’t remember placing them. [Oops!]”
Besides the fact that there are so many spots to place a variety of these angel friends, according to David, the most enjoyable part of collecting Sonny Angel’s is the feeling of opening up a blind box.
“My favorite part about collecting Sonny Angels is the gamble,” said David. “It’s almost like a safe roulette because while I do have some specific figures that I would die to have [in] my collection, I don’t mind welcoming any other design because they’re all so stinkin’ cute.”
These minifigures bring attention to the little things and bring joy wherever someone may go. With David’s growing collection, it’s a mystery which Sonny Angel she might receive next.
